1916-1947
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was first minted in 1916. It was designed by Adolph A. Weinman, whose initials appear under the tips of the wing feathers. Over 485 million were minted from 1916 until 1947. Lady Liberty on the obverse side is holding an olive branch while walking. She is clothed in the Stars and Stripes and striding toward the beginning of a new day. The reverse depicts a majestic eagle perched on a mountain crag with its wings unfolded in a pose suggesting power, while it clutches a pine sapling in its right talon.
