Bust Half Dollars Boxed Set1822-1836The Bust Half Dollar was designed by a German immigrant John Reich. Reich was the first artist for the U.S. Mint to consistently include the denomination on U.S. gold and silver coins. On the Bust Half Dollars is the head of Lady Liberty facing left which was used on all U.S. silver coin denominations for the next thirty years. Bust Half Dollars are unique in their size, larger than a half dollar and smaller than a silver dollar. They are also rare and difficult to find in quantity. John Reich became an engraver for the U.S. Mint and served from 1807 to 1817 after having been freed from a bond of servitude by a U.S. Mint official.
