The year 2006 brought still another change in the Westward Journey Nickel Series. This time it was a change on the obverse, featuring a full facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson. This is the first time a rendition of a full face sculpture, rather than the usual profiles of presidents, were used. The reverse depicts Jeffersons Virginia home Monticello. Originally executed by Felix Schlag for the 1938 nickel, the design was carefully restored by the U.S. Mint showing crisper details in certain elements of the image.
Jefferson Nickels are sold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, 40 coins per roll.
