In 1999 the U.S Mint began an ambitious program to create a new quarter for each of the 50 U.S. states. Since 1999, each year the U.S. Mint produces five new state quarters, and in 2008 the program will be completed. Each quarter’s reverse design is unique and features the states history, traditions and symbols. State quarters are released in the order that the states were admitted into the Union.
