The Bicentennial Washington Quarter issue began minting in 1975 and continued through December of 1976. Designed by John Flanagan, the obverse depicts George Washington facing left, with the date below, and the word “Liberty” above. The motto “In God We Trust” appears in the left field, with the designer’s initials at the base of the neck. The Bicentennial issue features a dual-date “1776-1976” commemorating the 200th anniversary of the independence of the United States. The reverse of the Bicentennial Washington Quarter was designed by Jack Ahr and features a Colonial drummer boy.
