 Walker Fractional Currency1874-1876 25 Cent 5th IssueFractional Currency was issued by the United States from 1862 to 1875. During the Civil War, the hoarding of coins required the U.S. Government to issue the making of this interesting short-lived series of notes. Notes were issued in denominations of 3, 5, 10, 15, 25, and 50 cents. There were 28 different, major types of these unusual notes issued. They remain legal tender to this day.
The front of this 25 cent, 5th issue note features a portrait of Secretary of the Treasury, Robert J. Walker, from 1845 to 1849. The reverse indicates the value with its beautiful and intricate detailing.
