The Liberty Seated Half Dime was designed by Christian Gobrecht and was minted in Philadelphia and New Orleans. The obverse design of the Seated Liberty coin depicts the figure of Lady Liberty dressed in a flowing garment and seated upon a rock. In her left hand, she holds a pole surmounted by a liberty cap. Lady Libertys right hand is rested on the top corner of a striped shield with a diagonal banner inscribed with the word "Liberty." The shield represented preparedness in the defense of freedom. The date of the coin appears on the bottom. On the reverse of the coin are traditional American agricultural products, such as corn and wheat.
