The Eisenhower Dollar began minting in 1971. Designed by Frank Gasparro, the obverse features war hero and two-term president, Dwight David Eisenhower. The reverse was also designed by Frank Gasparro and features a heraldic eagle over the surface of the moon, celebrating the Apollo 11 mission.
The special collector’s issue of the Brilliant Uncirculated Eisenhower Silver Dollar was produced at the San Francisco Mint between the years of 1971 to 1974. This rare coin is sold with its official U.S. Mint certification plastic disc. Plus each coin comes in its original blue envelope, hence the term “Blue Ike.”
